Lock your curls into place with Regis Design Line's Curl Lock Cream!

FINALLY! Extreme hold for your bodacious curls! For those who love the shape of their curls but are in need of a light weight product with a firm hold Regis Design Line has answered your prayers with 'Curl Lock Curl Cream'!

Regis Design Line's ‘Curl Lock Curl Cream’ is just that! Best applied while hair has been towel dried or semi damp, to hair in sections. It provides an awesome hold and definition to each curl. The Curl Lock sister shampoo is a great addition to this product but the curl cream itself does not rely on it.

The Pro’s: People who love their curls to be crunch free, filled with volume and movement will enjoy Regis Design Line's Curl Lock Curl Cream. This is not for rigid hairstyling; it most definitely locks every curl into place. This is a great product for those with thick coils to those with feathery fine hair. The texture of the product is rich and creamy.

Potential Con’s: The curl cream partially ignites curls and defines what you already have in an amazing way.

Regis Design Line's Curl Lock Curl Cream is affordable and can easily be found at your local specialty beauty supply. If not? Request it!

TiP: Hair Stylist Loyalty 101

Things get busy and life gets hectic but stay true to your stylist! Don't have too many different "Philosophies" in your head! Don't victimize your hair!

I've been one to have too many hands in my hair. What I mean by that is... I may go to one stylist this week and another the next. For me? it's my business to do this. I'm my own Ginnie pig. But I realise it's not always the best situation for your hair. I admit, it's a convenience thing over anything else. My life gets hectic and I hate making appointments even days in advanced because things tend to change for me VERY quickly and abruptly. Alot of the time, I've been that horrible client that cancels the morning of or wants to come in the morning of (without notice). At one point I travelled a lot, so for me i've learned you have to have consistency with your hair. That applies to your stylist as well.

I KNOW, I know, we're all not Oprah. Not all of our budgets can include our stylist as an item when travelling across the country or the world.

But to avoid having a few pocket curl situations, be sure to consider the following....

- It's true, you have different stylist for different things. You may have one stylist for your regular wash 'n go look and another for your creative extensions fix. You may have various stylist in various cities to accommodate your travel situation. Although their gifts and styling traits may be different make sure they have similar hair care philosophies to avoid mismatched hair situations that may lead to serious stress on your hair.

- Have an open and honest relationship with your stylist. Be friendly and relaxed with them to receive genuine feedback. You wouldn't just let ANYONE house sit? So get to know who is styling your hair.

- Be consistent. Visit your hairstylist on a schedule that your budget and time can accommodate. Invest in them and they will invest in your hair. Let them trust you so you can trust them. In this industry, people tend to get hustled with a blink of an eye to avoid this be consistent and personable.

*I know you all are probably wondering what in the WORLD is a Pocket Curl. I only learned what this term meant by my home girl Ms. Lynn (Jazma). Pretty much, it's when a shady stylist is curling your hair, burns a patch of your hair (that may or may not drop to the floor) and pockets the curl. They don't tell you about the mistake, they don't try to fix it but rather they pocket the curl and send you on your way without any remorse. So befriend your stylist and AVOID the Pocket Curl lol.

Thanx Lynne

She gave me some great and horrible new things to feature... so stay tuned!

Oscar Blandi's Sculpting Pomade holds every hair in place

I adore crazy out of control (in a good way) type hair, but there are times when you need to tame your mane lol. For those of you lovelies that hate gel but love its hold and want a sleek finish to your doo without weight or flyhairs in sight ...get familiar with Oscar Blandi's 'Sculpting Pomade'.

I <3 This Product...

Oscar Blandi's 'Sculpting Pomade' is a creamy textured pomade that is light in weight and enjoyable to apply. Best applied prior and during styling. It provides AMAZING hold, sheen and definition to any style with the flat or curling iron.

The Pro’s: This product provides great hold as an easier alternative to gels, mousse and hair sprays. It holds your style for long periods and if applied correctly it provides shine and touchable hold to either a straight or curled hair style. It's very easy to apply, it's like applying a lotion to your hair! Rub a loonie sized amount throughly in the palms of your hand until warm and voila! It's ready for application. For consistency, make sure to apply the product evenly throughout your hair. Great for short or long looks.

Potential Con’s: Because of this products soft wax like texture, If too much is applied its somewhat hard to get out of your hair. I would advise using a good cleanser to totally rid your hair of this product - in the event you over do it.

Oscar Blandi's Sculpting Pomade is somewhat expensive, but worth the investment. One container lasted me for well over 2 years and Iamonly on Jar number two.

This product can be found at sephora, dermstore.ca or just make a request at your local specialty beauty supply.

LG Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2010 by L'oreal RAP UP!

We know, we know it's almost two weeks since the wirlwind of fabulousness ended but here is the rundown/rap up as we promised!

All in all Toronto Fashion Week was success adn you can say (based on the opinion of many) very tame in comparison to earlier events. Cough-no drnken speeches this time around-Cough. All you canadian fashion enthusiasts KNOW who and what we're talking about.

The fashionable trends in hair to look out for this coming fall are wild and almost tribal. We here at BHC are EXTREEMELY excited to see how lovely ladies of Canada will incorporate some of these trends into their everyday fab. Earthy and natural hair tones are IN this year. As a whole, it seems the asymetrical hair cutting is a thing of the past. No crazy hair colours, but lots of crazy hair styling. Lots of teasing, texture, volume and up do's. Although wild, the styles were very fun, flirty and feminine.

Although there wasn't much change in the lack of diversity on the catwalk (which NEEDS to change), the beautiful women of colour who did stomp the catwalk were looking fabolicious.

Stacey Mackenzie was indeed a presence at fashion week! We got it in with her back stage and took note of her hair colour transition from strawberry blond/red vibe to a rather sultry deep chocolate brown.

Canadian First Lady of fashion aka Bossy Lady @ Fashion Television Jeanne Beker's discouraging words to Canada's Next Top Model Cycle 1 contestant Tenika Davis a couple years back havn't effected homegirls presence on the Canadian catwalk. BHC was glad to see our girl Tenika getting her strut on at multiples shows during Fashion Week.

Stay Tuned for some pics, we're havin some technical difficulties (they'll be up soon!).

Sulu MaxGro REALLY Works!

If you are need if some SERIOUS scalp treatments then your prayers have been answered! ‘Sulu MaxGro’ is a light weight oil based hair treatment that specifically stimulates hair growth. Sulu MaxGro’s application is not set in stone, there are various ways you can apply it. Whether you choose to use the bottle itself, your finger tips or even your feet (We kid… but hey, if it works? let us know lol) you are bound to have amazing results within just a few weeks!

The Pro’s: People who desire a few extra inches for whatever reason (whether due to breakage or just for an alternative hair goal) will find this product works RAPIDLY. The application as we mentioned above is easy. Apply the product as you would a scalp moisturizer. The two methods we found best was by applying Sulu MaxGro daily directly to the scalp by using no more oil than about the size of a loonie in the palm of your hand (before sleeping). Alternatively, apply as a weekly deep conditioning treatment after a good cleanse. Place a warm towel over top your hair to nourish and relax your scalp for a minimum of 10 minutes or so. Don’t Rinse until your next hair cleanse. Although growth may vary person to person, we tested this product on three different individuals and came across the same amazing results. Within a 4 week span we saw about 1 inch of growth on all participants (Note, generally hair tends to grown half an inch per month). Sulu MaxGro is very affordable and ships quickly!

Potential Con’s: We’re not going to lie to you lovelies, the smell is quit strong. Although Sulu MaxGro advises you not to mix the product with others we found if you applied a small amount of a Hibiscus Oil based hair moisturizer the smell wasn’t so bad, if anything pleasant. They are currently working on an alternative scent so bare with them. If you apply TOO much it is a very oil situation. Sulu MaxGro does not readily dissolve into your scalp so we would advise that once applied ensure that you cover your hair for a period of time to let it settle into your scalp (hence our suggestion to apply before sleep).

Colour Trends Among the Black and Beautiful for Spring Summer 2010!

The colour trends have been strong and prominent among the fierce, sexy and fabulous Canadians this spring!

We’ve been noticing more tamed hues such as chocolate brown and honey brown of the winter leading into spring/summer trends this year.

So steer clear of the crazy reds, pinks and greens lovelies! Make sure to enhance your doo with an amazing hue of brown or dark blonde this summer. Colouring your full head too drastic? Then opt for colouring slabs of hair rather than dated highlights.

Be fearless, free and fun!

Goldwell's 'Move Control' is simple, fast and great for curl definition on the go!

For those who love the shape of their curls but are in need of a light weight product to put full focus on their curl as opposed to distracting frizz, Goldwell’s ‘Move Control’ is just for you.

‘Move Control’ is curl putty that is light in weight and very easy to apply. Best applied while hair has been towel dried or semi damp, it provides an awesome sheen and definition to each curl independently without any help from Goldwells sister products.

The Pro’s: People who love their curls to be crunch free, filled with volume and shine. Move Control is not for rigid hairstyling, if ‘freely defined’ is your niche then this product most definitely lives up to the standard. This is a great product for those with thin curly hair that is feathery. The texture of the product is light weight and is cream based - it won’t weigh down your curls (some products that weight down your curls –may make hair appear thinner than usual). Overall a very playful experience while styling, it dries very quickly with a shine finish.

Potential Con’s: The putty does not ignite curls, it simply defines what you already have. If you are in need of curl ignition, this product will have to be used along side a curl activator that may inevitably defy the light-weight feature of this product.

Goldwell’s ‘Move Control’ is affordable and can easily be found at your local specialty beauty supply.

DermOrganic is a luxurious alternative that is indeed Au Natural!

DermOrganic Leave in treatment is deliciously decadent for all the right reasons. For all hair types, it provides a conditioning treatment that you can use daily without fear of over moisturizing your hair to a greasy mess. It has a light texture that is oil based which bedazzles a straight doo, a coiled blessing or a dramatic gathering of locks with utter softness and shine. The treatment is made primarily of Argan Oil (an oil produced from the kernels of the endemic argan tree, that is valued for its nutritive, cosmetic and numerous medicinal properties. The tree, a relict species from the Tertiary age, is extremely well adapted to drought and other environmentally difficult conditions of southwestern Morocco) containing no alcohol, no dyes, and no artificial preservatives.

Where to buy? We have been seeing this product more and more in mainstream beauty supply. The only one that seems to be comfortable enough to give out samples is one of Canada’s leading beauty supply chains the BSO aka Beauty Supply Outlet (so go to your local beauty supply outlet and ask one of their sales associates for sample to fully experience DO’s Leave in treatment). Trust us, you will want to purchase the item after a little sample and incorporate it into your every day hair health regiment.

Hit up www.dermorganic.com for more details on the product!

We LOVE Bobbi Boss!

For you lovely weave enthusiasts who aren’t familiar with Bobbi Boss Hair? GET FAMILIAR!

In 2010, BHC has a funny feeling Bobbi Boss will be a huge force among the fabulous in Canada’s hair industry. Bobbi Boss is a leader in human and synthetic hair products. Based out of California, They have a huge variety in textures and colours while giving an experience of utter luxury with every sassy lock on each well constructed waif.

The quality is what sets Bobbi Boss apart from a lot of other synthetic and human hair distributors, while still having a great range of styles. Whether big and curly, long and straight, sassy sultry waved or just a adventurous change on a whim, every woman will find a look that suits their hair preference.

General Pros: The hair texture is indeed human. Bobbi Boss hair does not itch at all and blends well with various hair textures. With a variety of colours you face little need to customize your purchased tresses with colour (but considering the quality of hair, you still have that as an option).

Line Fave:

PLEASE NOTE: THE STYLING OF BOBBI BOSS OCEAN WAVE INDI REMI EXTENSIONS ON THE MODEL IN THIS PHOTO DOES NO JUSTICE TO THE ACTUAL CURLS/WAVES/OVERALL TEXTURE OF OCEAN WAVE IN LIFE. HOPEFULLY ON BOBBI BOSS'S NEXT PROMOTIONAL SHOOT THEY WILL INVEST IN A BETTER STYLIST TO ENSURE THE AMAZING QUALITY IS EMPHASIZED EFFORTLESSLY IN THEIR ADS. =)

IF you love the versatility of going back and forth between straight and amazingly curly, Bobbi Boss Ocean Wave INDI REMI Human hair is what you need. Its soft light texture with amazing volume is the best product out of the Bobbi Boss hair line as a first experience.

General Cons: like any extension, Bobbi Boss sheds. Yes, they shed but even so... you won’t have embarrassing moments where you feel as if the hair is running away from you (without a brush intervention). You’ll notice excessive hair loss in your styling instruments (combs and brushes) and yet you will still have fullness with weeks and weeks of shedding into your combs. Unfortunately, it is very hard to find Bobbi Boss products in your local beauty supply. Because retail accounts are required to buy in bulk at a minimum of $3000.00 USD PLUS most retailers are unwilling to take that chance in the north considering they would have to retail the hair at a high cost. For example, there is only ONE legitimate location in all of Toronto. ON that carries a wide selection of Bobbi Boss hair in stock and it’s mainly because we here at BHC BEGGED them to carry it. So all you lovely Torontonian divas be sure to walk into Hair Trix Salon (click here for their contact) and tell them we sent you! For those of you lovelies out of the area unable to get your Bobbi Boss fix in person, online is your best bet or befriend and pressure your local Beauty Supply to invest this amazing line (just note Bobbi Boss does not distribute their product directly to the general public).

Hit up www.bobbiboss.com for more details on their products!

Going ‘Nautural’ isn’t as hard as you may think

Natural hair within the black community has been laced with this stigma surrounding legitimacy of ‘blackness’. At times, wearing your hair natural can be misinterpreted (by some) as a social statement. More and more black women in Canada are wearing their hair natural, not as a statement but rather to deter from damaging their hair with over processed traditional hair care.

As someone who has been Natural for over three years now, I’ve been the most comfortable I‘ve ever been with my own natural texture. I embrace the versatility and I am constantly playing with my hair, now that I am extremely comfortable with its state. I can’t really say that I wear my hair in one particular style all the time… I will admit there are few signature styles that I revisit from time to time. All in all, for each style no matter how different they are people tend to react with a “You’re so bold”. I enjoy washing my hair and playing with my multi-textured tightly coiled curls. But I also enjoy blowing out my curls to a straight doo, for more length and less use of product. In the winter, to give my hair a break I wear extensions leaving a little piece of my natural hair exposed to cover them. Surprisingly, with little maintenance the extensions need only a simple touch up with my flat iron on a low heat every few days to blend my hairs texture with that of my extensions regularly.

For you lovely individuals that are playing with idea of going natural? DO IT! There are so many different styles and textures you can pursue while natural. It truly is an empowering feeling knowing you have so much versatility on a whim.

Steiner Twist and Turn Curling Cream

For all you lovelies who adore curls free of crunch and residue Steiner’s Twist and Turn Curling Cream is exactly what you need to use to define your curly-do. Whether your curls are tight or are loose waves this product will indeed define each and make your styling regiment a lil bit easier.

This product is affordable (ranging between $20 to $25 – online and in stores) and very effective in humid or dry weather that can be very cruel to your hairs health. Because This is a styling product that’s texture is creamy and rich, you may only want to use a minimal amount in your hair (a little really does go a long way with this product). The smell is divine and its best to use this while your hair is damp.

The best effective method to place this product in is by damping you hair, putting a coins worth of the cream in your palm working it throughout your hair with you fingers, comb through your hair after the products been worked in with a large tooth comb and crunch with your fingers to ignite your curls fabulous shape. Honestly, this is typically where people introduce the advice to use a diffuser… but depending on how you wear your curls it may not be necessary.

Side Note: If you choose to air-dry your curls be prepared for a more tamed look– there is no real definition difference between the two (but for more volume than your hair allows be sure to use the diffuser). Once you’ve completed your desired style put a bit of MorrocanOil Treatment (www.moroccanoil.com). To get that sassy yet sultry luster every woman wants on each curl. We weren’t able to find an Official Website for Steiner hair care – so if any one out there knows it hit us up! Info@blackhaircanada.com.

BEWARE: Black Diamond Hair Extensions are loosing their luster.

Black Diamond Hair Extensions (an affiliate of Bohyme Hair Extensions – www.bohyme.com) is loosing it’s luster. Their current products being sold have some how evolved into a overly tangly, shedding, rough textured mess. This product at one point was not only affordable but was amazing quality and provided new and old clients with a luxurious texture and style. We’re unsure if the recession is playing a role in their products new characteristics but we here at blackhaircanada.com strongly advise that you reconsider any further purchasing of their products to avoid wasting your money in addition to your time.

Hate wrapping your hair at night? Try something new.

Women love that feeling they get after leaving their hairstylist. You feel free, your head feels light and you’re totally content with your hair (when it’s been done right). Your hairstyle completes that confidence cocktail which includes a pair of fabulous shoes, a group of great friends and an amazing setting. Most women, want to maintain that “just left my stylists happy” feeling as long as they can. So after a fun night on the town, an amazing day at school, a productive day at work or a relaxed evening of entertaining you wrap your hair with the most silkiest luxurious scarf you own and climb into bed with hopes that you don’t sweat out your new Hairdo. For some of you, your wrap game is amazing and you’re greeted with no surprise that your scarf is still in its place the next morning. For some of us, this pleasant scenario is not the case. For some wake up to find their hair in disarray and their scarf no where in sight! For you lovely but unfortunately ladies… try something new.

In addition to or replacement of your scarf try sleeping on silk pillow cases. They must be real silk (just note that cotton fabric cuts your hair whereas silk doesn’t and helps maintain your hairs moisture). You will notice a world of difference that next morning , less the hassle of intricately wrapping your hair.
